In a judgment already sparking nationwide debate, the Federal High Court in Abuja has sentenced the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, to life imprisonment after finding him guilty on all seven terrorism charges brought by the Federal Government.

Justice James Omotosho, who read the lengthy judgment, ruled that Kanu's activities amounted to terrorism, insisting that his actions had caused bloodshed, fear, and instability across the South-East.

According to the court, Kanu "posed as a defender of his people but ended up endangering national security,ÔÇØ labeling him "an international terrorist who must be treated accordingly.ÔÇØ
The judge further held that the prosecution led credible, sufficient and unchallenged evidence to establish all allegations beyond reasonable doubt. He emphasized that Kanu refused to enter a defence, instead electing to rest his case on the prosecution's arguments - a gamble the court said ultimately worked against him.
