The Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, has cried out from detention, warning that he may die in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS) if urgent medical intervention is not provided.

Kanu, who has been in DSS custody since his extraordinary rendition in 2021, revealed that he is battling multiple life-threatening ailments, including tinnitus, hypertension, sleep deprivation, liver and kidney disease, and what doctors described as "white matter disease."

In a strongly worded letter to the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Kanu lamented that the DSS has consistently ignored his deteriorating health conditions, describing the neglect as a "reckless disregard for human life."

According to him, tinnitus - a constant internal "chirping" sound in his ears - has robbed him of sleep, intensified his hypertension, and put him at grave risk of stroke, collapse, or sudden death.

"Among the gravest threats to my survival today is tinnitus. The incessant chirping in my ears is more than a nuisance; it robs me of sleep and worsens my hypertension. This neglect places me in immediate danger of stroke or sudden death," Kanu stated.

The IPOB leader further accused the DSS chief medical officer, Dr. Nasiru Mohammed, of falsifying his medical records by recording "normal potassium levels" despite dangerously low readings, which left him suffering frequent fainting episodes, chest pains, nosebleeds, and swollen feet.

He also alleged that his longtime physician, Dr. Cfine, who has treated him for decades, was barred and intimidated into silence until Emeritus Professor Martin Aghaji, a globally respected surgeon, intervened to save him from imminent collapse.

Despite Professor Aghaji confirming systemic organ diseases, including liver, kidney, pancreas, bladder, and prostate issues, Kanu said DSS authorities have subjected even him to intimidation.

Kanu warned that his life remains in jeopardy if urgent action is not taken, stressing that the Nigerian judiciary and medical community must not allow him to die in silence under DSS custody.
