The rally, which was being organized by loyalists of Obi to celebrate his birthday, was scheduled to take place this week in Kaduna. However, the police have declared it unlawful, warning that the gathering could be hijacked by criminal elements to incite violence and destabilize public order.
The directive was contained in an official statement issued by the Command's Public Relations Officer, DSP Mansir Hassan. The statement noted that although the rally was intended to honour the Labour Party's 2023 presidential candidate, intelligence reports indicate a high risk of infiltration by individuals aiming to exploit the occasion for violent purposes.

"While we recognise the right to freedom of assembly, intelligence at our disposal reveals that some criminal elements are planning to exploit the rally for subversive activities. Therefore, in the interest of public peace, we advise the organisers to suspend the rally,ÔÇØ the police said.

The statement also reminded the public that all forms of political rallies and public political gatherings in Kaduna State remain suspended until the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) officially declares the commencement of political activities.
Adding to the complexity, the police disclosed that multiple political parties in the state had already informed them of party primaries scheduled for the same day as the proposed rally. Authorities are concerned that the overlap could ignite tension and potentially result in violent clashes between opposing groups.

"In view of these developments, the command strongly advises the organisers of the planned Peter Obi rally to suspend any gathering or procession,ÔÇØ the statement emphasized. "If they wish to honour their principal, such activities should be conducted in a safe and non-disruptive manner.ÔÇØ
The police further warned that any attempt to defy the advisory would be met with legal consequences, stressing that security operatives are on high alert to ensure law and order is maintained.
