Why Nigeria Must Be Restructured In Next Three Years - Gani Adams

The Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yorubaland, Iba Gani Adams, has warned that the future of Nigeria is in jeopardy if the country is not restructured within three years.

He stated this while speaking in Lagos on Thursday at the presentation of "Roundtable Discussion on Economy and Restructuring in NigeriaÔÇØ, a book by National Pilot Books, a subsidiary of National Pilot Newspapers.

Gani Adams stated that Nigerians are no longer clamouring for restructuring as most tribe from the south now want self-determination.

"Prevailing view of our people, particularly those in the Diaspora, is that we have graduated beyond the restructuring we have been clamouring for since 1991 through Alao Aka-Bashorun to self-determination,ÔÇØ he said.

Prince Charles Akintoye, who represented the former Peoples' Democratic Party (PDP) National Vice Chairman (Southwest), Olabode George, said there is a need for restructuring "because the structure we have now in Nigeria is totally not working and change is the only constant thing in lifeÔÇØ.

Managing Director and Editor-in-Chief, Billy Adedamola said the book is a product of a one-day roundtable discussion on the economy and restructuring.

He said Nigeria has been going through a series of problems that border on the economy.

Meanwhile, the Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, has denied claims by Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State that the federal government printed N60bn to distribute to states.

Emefiele stated that it is inappropriate for Obaseki to give colouration to the printing of money.

He stated this while speaking in Nasarawa State during an inspection tour of the proposed $500m Dangote sugar processing facility.

Emefiele said, "If you understand the concept of printing of money, it is about lending money. That is our job. To print is about lending money.

"So, there is no need of putting all the controversy about printing of money as if we go into the factory, print the naira and start distributing on the streets.

"It is very inappropriate for people to give colouration to printing of money as if it is some foreign words coming from the sky.

"It's important for me to put it this way that in 2015/16, the kind of situation we found ourselves in, we did provide a budget support facility to all the states of this country.

"That loan is still unpaid up till now. We are going to insist on them paying back the money since they are accusing us of giving them loans.ÔÇØ
