B00M: Why Nigerians Are Protesting In South Africa | READ DETAILS

Nigerians in South Africa on Tuesday, June 15, staged a protest over the alleged killing of a 30-year-old man, by a South African police officer.

The victim, Stanley Igwe, an indigene of Amandugba village, in Isu Local Government Area of Imo State, was reportedly killed by a police officer in Newcastle, KwaZulu-Natal Province in South Africa, on Sunday, June 6.

The President-General, Nigerian Citizens Association in South Africa (NICASA), Mr Ben Okoli who spoke on phone to NAN from Johannesburg, confirmed that the protest followed Igwe's alleged killing.

"All hell broke loose at Newcastle Police Station, in KwaZulu -Natal, when a group of Nigerian men stormed the police station demanding justice for their fallen brother.

"The Nigerian men claimed that one of the police officers from the Newcastle Police Station killed a Nigerian man, unprovoked.

"The Nigerian diplomatic mission in South Africa is currently handling the situation to resolve the issue amicably" Okoli said.
