Why Protesters Shut Down FCT Minister's Office
Protesters in their number have on Friday, shut down the office of the Minister of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Malam Mohammed Bello over the long overdue inauguration of newly elected council chairmen and councillors.

The FCT Administration Secretariat was also rocked by a storm of protesters from the Abuja Municipal Area Council who registered their dissatisfaction with the turn out of events.

The delay as cited by the administration on Thursday, 19th May is due to the ruling of an FCT High Court.
According to Minister's office, the court had ordered a suspension of the swearing-in.
In the build up of things, an outgoing chairman had approached the court seeking a tenure extension by one year in accordance with the new Electoral Act that stipulates a four-year term for area council chairmen in the FCT and the court had subsequently ruled in his favour.

The development has gone on to compound matters.

Reacting, the FCT Minister explained it is essential the FCTA abides by the ruling as law-abiding administration.

A total of six new council chairmen, and 62 councillors were elected in February this year.
