In a rare show of bipartisan statesmanship, the immediate past Deputy Governor of Abia State and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain, Sir Ude Oko Chukwu, has declared that Governor Alex Otti has, through his performance so far, earned the right to a second term in office.

Oko Chukwu made this bold statement while addressing journalists shortly after a closed-door meeting with the Governor in Umuahia. According to the former Deputy Governor, who also served as a former Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, Governor Otti's deliberate and result-driven governance has set a new benchmark in leadership across the state.

"Let me tell you, I've gone round Abia State-especially those of us from Abia North-you just discover that the kind of road infrastructure we now have is unprecedented,ÔÇØ Oko Chukwu stated. "It's not all about politics. It's not propaganda. The truth must be told.ÔÇØ

The PDP leader went further to highlight what he described as "intentional governanceÔÇØ across critical sectors including road infrastructure, health, education, and sports, noting that Otti's administration has brought about transformational changes that cannot be ignored.

"Everything he's doing, he's very intentional. Whether in terms of infrastructure, health, sports-name it. Governor Otti has earned himself another tenure,ÔÇØ he emphasized.

He described the infrastructural revolution across Abia North, Aba, and Umuahia as both impressive and unprecedented, pointing to visible evidence of progress. "Even the level of cleanliness in Aba and Umuahia today is something we haven't witnessed before,ÔÇØ he said.

Sir Ude Oko Chukwu, whose comments are seen as a significant shift in Abia's political narrative, added that the purpose of his visit was to commend the Governor and pledge support from well-meaning stakeholders across the state.

"We just came to commend him, to appreciate him and to let him know that all hands are on deck to support him. What he has achieved in two years is something Abians must recognize.ÔÇØ

On whether he is considering joining the Labour Party as part of the ongoing political realignments, Oko Chukwu did not rule out the possibility. "If I'm going to do that, I'll invite all of you to witness it. Maybe soonest,ÔÇØ he said.

His remarks have sent strong signals across the political landscape in Abia, fueling speculation of a potential defection and reinforcing the growing consensus that Governor Otti's developmental strides have crossed party lines.
