Wike Hints About Peace Talks After Meeting With PDP BoT

Nyesom Wike, Governor of Rivers State has said he is committed to resolving the crisis that has bedeviled the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Wike said this after the meeting with the party's Board of Trusted yesterday at the Government House in Port Harcourt.

"The most important thing is to have peace," Wike said. "The house is united. I am hopeful we will resolve the issues, because I am alive.

"Only those who are alive are hopeful. We have said repeatedly that we will not leave the party. We believe the internal issues will be resolved."

Adolphus Wabara, Acting Chairman of the BoT, who also spoke after the meeting hinted that progress had been made at the talks.

"We have not concluded," Wabara said. "Making peace is difficult. But we have heard from his side. The family remains one. We shall achieve peace very soon."

Wike had been in loggerheads with the leadership of the party over failure of its National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu to resign after the emergence of Atiku Abubakar as the presidential candidate of the party.

He and his allies subsequently withdrew from the presidential campaign council of Atiku, and were absent at the inauguration of his campaign council on September 28, 2022 as they argued that northerners should not occupy the two top positions of the party.
