WTO DG: US Declares Support For Okonjo-Iweala, She Reacts

Former Finance Minister, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala has expressed gratitude as the United States declared support for her appointment as the next Director-General of the World Trade Organization (WTO).

AF-NEWS had reported that the endorsement was announcement by the office of the US Trade Representative.

This followed the decision by the Republic of Korea's Trade Minister, Yoo Myung-hee to end her candidacy.
The statement had expressed President Joe Biden administration's strong support for Nigeria's former Finance Minister.

It said Iweala is respected for her effective leadership and has proven experience managing a large international organization with a diverse membership.

Reacting, Okonjo Iweala on Twitter thanked President Muhammadu Buhari and Nigerians for their support.
