ABHA UPDATE: OKIYI CONFIRMED, HON. APUGO DROPS WHIP POSITION, LGA CHAIRMEN SCREENING STARTS

The 1ST plenary session of the Abia State House of Assembly began in earnest with the screening and confirmation of a commissioner nominee from the executive, in the person of Chief John Okiyi Kalu.

Speaking during the plenary, the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Chinedum Orji welcomed his colleagues, congratulated them on their victory at the poll and enjoined them to commit their efforts in making laws that will affect their Constituents in particular and the State at large positively.

He used the medium to read out a correspondent from the governor to the members of Abia State House of Assembly. Based on the letter, the governor was requesting for the screening and confirmation of the 17 L.G.A transition committee Chairmen and their deputies.

The speaker immediately set up a committee for the purpose of screening them. The committee members are as follows; Hon. Munachim Alozie as Chairman, while the members of the committee include Hon. Chukwudi Apugo, Hon. Abraham Oba, Hon. John Kennedy Njoku, Hon. Ginger Onwusibe and Hon. Jerry Uzosike, while Mr. Eke Ukeh Michael will serve as secretary.

The member representing Umuahia East Constituency, Hon. Chukwudi Apugo used the medium to thank his constituents for returning him to the house as their lawmaker and announced his intention to relinquish his position as Deputy Majority Whip, which he said is in the interest of his party and his constituents.

A motion for adjournment was moved by Hon. Jerry Uzosike and seconded by the minority leader Hon. Abraham Oba and the House adjourned to reconvene on Tuesday 18th of June 2019 at 10 am, just as the House standing order for the 7th Assembly was deliberated and adopted by the members.
