The Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Abia State Chapter, has issued a strongly worded communiqu├® that appears to redraw the political battle lines ahead of 2027, declaring its unwavering support for Governor Alex Chioma Otti, OFR, while sharply rebuking what it described as speculative and revisionist political rhetoric from figures linked to Abia's troubled past.

In the communiqu├® signed by the ALGON Chairman, Hon. Chinedu Ekeke, the body said it had taken note of recent political meetings and public statements allegedly orchestrated by "architects of a failed pastÔÇØ, including some former governors and their associates, who have been making pronouncements about the tenure and political future of Governor Otti.

While affirming the constitutional rights of citizens to freedom of expression and association, ALGON stressed that leadership in a democracy is earned through performance and the freely expressed will of the electorate-not through political gang-ups or declarations.

According to ALGON, Governor Otti's administration has recorded visible, verifiable, and grassroots-impacting achievements across all seventeen local government areas, cutting across road recovery and construction, rehabilitation of healthcare and educational facilities, prompt payment of salaries and pensions, clearing of salary arrears, and prudent management of public resources.

The local government chairmen further observed that Abia has undergone a psychological and institutional rebirth, noting that where citizens once hesitated to openly identify with the state due to years of decline, there is now renewed pride among Abians at home and in the diaspora, driven by restored confidence in governance.

ALGON emphasized its unique position as the custodians of grassroots governance, stating that its members are in constant interaction with communities and can attest to the growing public trust in the direction of governance and the tangible benefits being felt by ordinary citizens.

In a veiled but pointed rebuke, the association declared that the current unease in certain political quarters does not stem from poor governance, but rather from the sharp contrast between Otti's achievements and the abysmal legacy of previous administrations, whose years in office were marked by unmet needs and broken promises.

The communiqu├® warned against attempts to pre-empt the democratic process or undermine ongoing progress through divisive rhetoric, insisting that public discourse must be driven by facts, not exaggerations or false narratives.

Calling on all political actors to engage constructively, ALGON urged them to present alternative ideas, policies, and visions capable of advancing development, unity, and stability in Abia State, instead of resorting to distractions.

In a decisive political move, ALGON collectively and unequivocally declared its absolute support for the re-election of Governor Alex C. Otti in 2027, passing a unanimous vote of confidence on him in recognition of his performance, leadership style, and commitment to restoring integrity, efficiency, and service delivery across Abia State.

The association also expressed appreciation for what it described as the massive support and collaborative relationship between the state government and local governments, reaffirming its commitment to policies and programmes that strengthen local governance and improve citizens' quality of life.

ALGON concluded by stating that Abia State is firmly on a path of renewal, adding that the future of the state remains in the hands of its people, whose collective judgment must always be respected.
