The Executive governor of Abia State, Dr Alex Otti, has said that his administration will soon commence actions to rid Ariaria International market, Aba of flooding and make it more conducive for commercial activities.

Speaking during his quarterly interaction with Abians on Thursday, the governor stated that it will take more than 18 months to rid Aba of flooding in other to save the newly constructed and reconstructed roads in those areas from damaging.

The governor assured that the projects would be divided into phases, adding that within the next few days, his government will come out with a comprehensive plan on running the project.

"Very soon, we will also commence our efforts in ridding Aba of flooding, particularly Ariaria market and all the corridors around there. It is a very ambitious project and we want to beat the rains- from the drawings, designs. All the meetings we held between yesterday and today, it does appear that it will take more than 18 months to rid Aba of flooding .

Our challenge now is to divide the projects into phases. Within the next few days we will come up with a comprehensive plan. We are also very interested din dissecting the whole of Aba and Umuahia and we believe that that will help save the roads we are building an the environment from flooding."

Speaking further on road infrastructure, governor Otti said over twenty six roads are under construction in Aba and Umuahia.

"We have been firing from all cylinders in terms of reclaiming our state from infrastructural decay"

At the last count, 26 new roads are in different stages of completion . That does not include several other roads, over 10 or 15 that we are dealing with through our direct Labour agency.

We have commissioned about 6 newly reconstructed roads; we have about 4 completed and ready for commissioning mostly in Aba.

In addition our zero pothole policy is being implemented to the latter in major towns including Aba and Umuahia. Our selection of roads is based on their strategic importance" the governor said.
