The political atmosphere in Abia North has taken a new and decisive turn following the unanimous endorsement of H.E. Onyekwere Akym Uche, the 2023 governorship candidate of the Action Alliance (AA), for the 2027 Abia North Senatorial race.

The endorsement was made on Thursday, November 27, 2025, during a strategic meeting of the Abia North Renaissance Group (ANRG), a key political bloc with strong grassroots influence across the district.

In a communique issued after the meeting, the group described the current representation of Abia North in the Senate led by Senator Orji Uzor Kalu - as "a shameful departure from the expectations of the people." According to ANRG, the district has suffered "visible stagnation, muted representation, and a widening disconnect between the senator and the constituents."

The group said their decision to rally behind Akym Uche was informed by his leadership experience, philanthropic spirit, political courage, and long-standing commitment to community development. They stressed that in evaluating aspirants, Akym stood out as the only candidate whose values align with the aspirations of the people.

According to the group, the 2027 election presents an opportunity to "rescue Abia North from political dormancy" and install a senator who speaks for everyone - the old, young, men, women, farmers, traders, and professionals.

"We no longer want leaders who sit in positions of authority only to advance their family and personal interests," the group declared. "Abia North needs a voice that speaks for the people, fights for their rights, and brings development home. Akym Uche is that voice."

The endorsement is already generating political momentum across local government areas within the district, with observers predicting that Akym Uche may become the candidate to beat if he formally declares for the Senate race in the coming months.
