The Abia police has been accused of killing one Mr Tochukwu Nwadike, a motorcycle operator, tagging him a thief .

A retired school principal, Mrs Chioma Nwaogwugwu aunty to the deceased Tochukwu, made this claim before the Abia State panel of inquiry sitting in Umuahia today, March 24.

She said; " on July 5, 2019, I went to see my friend Mrs Ngozi Amaraihu, a chief matron at the general hospital Aba.
" As I was leaving, there was a pandemonium outside which caught my interest. Out of curiosity, I moved towards the gate where they have the mortuary.
" On arrival, I saw Policemen in a vehicle with a corpse. They had told people who gathered that the corpse was that of a thief.

" On a closer look, I saw that the corpse was that of my late elder brother's son Tochukwu.

" I started crying, telling them that Tochukwu was a motorcycle rider and not a thief.

" My friend took me home. I informed my husband when I got home. He took me to the village where we met people already crying probably they were informed by another person".
During her cross examination by the police counsel, CC Nwaobilor, she was asked why she didn't report to any police station nor a law court since 2019.
Responding, the petitioner said; I consulted a lawyer, and I was told that the case would require financial resources, time and other efforts.
" Tochukwu's mother, Mrs Susan Nwadike who is bedriden, diabetic and has a sore which has eaten up her leg requires financial assistance together with her three younger children whom Tochukwu was taking care of when he was alive.
" I considered the options of pursuing Tochukwu's case who was just 27 years then, or his mother, and I resolved to the latter.

" I wanted her to be alive and we resolved to praying as vengeance is of the lord. That is why the #EndSARS came up if you don't know.

" We paused to make sure that the living is kept alive before we resume the pursuit of the deceased's case ".

Mrs Nwaogwugwu pleaded:
that the deceased's corpse be released by the police for burial.
That the police release Tochukwu's motorcycle which was still new as at that time.

That a compensation of N20M be awarded to the deceased's mother.

The matter was adjourned till April 7, for adoption of written addresses.
