ABIA: There Is Nothing Like Constituency Allowance In ABHA - Hon. Emeka Okoroafor

Honorable Barrister Emeka Okoroafor, the Member representing Isuikwuato State Constituency, in the Abia State House of Assembly, has said that there are no provisions for constituency allowance which House members are expected to be provided with, to aid them facilitate projects in their constituencies.

The House member who featured on AF-TV Programme "Focal Point' on Thursday, lamented that House members are put in a fix owing to non-provision of required allowances by the Executive to provide necessary amenities for the people.

According to Okoroafor, they are left with no other option than to use their personal money to facilitate some projects according to their capacity.

"there is no provision for constitutional projects in Abia. The best you can do is to lobby and have it in the budget. It's now with the executive to allocate, because a budget without funding amounts to nothing.

"There are so many roads that I've made sure that they are there in the budget, and it keeps rolling from year to year.

"it is not our job to execute projects, so no money is given to us. I don't earn money to execute projects, I don't earn money for security. What I do is to partner where we have constituency projects at the FederalÔÇØ Okoroafor said.

The lawmaker said he has facilitated some projects in his constituency including; a 4 classroom blocks in Acha, two community schools in Uturu, and renovations in Ahaba.

Projects facilitated with his personal money include; a market in Ezere, school hall in Ozara, school in Ahaba, "with my personal money, my savingsÔÇØ.

He also attracted customary courts in Ovim and Nkwonta while others are still in process and employment.

Speaking on the laws he has sponsored in the House in 3-years, Okorafor noted that though he has sponsored laws in the House, lawmaking is not a problem rather implementation of laws.

He decried the non-establishment of Abia State House of Assembly Service Commission which has hampered the proper documentation of laws passed and accented to.

He noted that the Abia State Law Commission is not up-to date since 2011, therefore the public cannot know laws that have been passed and accented to or not in the state.
