Diversion Of Capital Project Funds By MDAs, Reps Opens Investigation

The House of Representatives yesterday mandated all its standing committees to investigate ministries, departments and agencies of government over alleged diversions of funds released to them for execution of capital projects in the 2021 Appropriation Act.

The committees were asked to report within two weeks.

This followed the adoption of a motion by Minority Leader Ndudi Elumelu who alleged that some MDAs engaged in diversions of funds released to them.

He said many of the MDAs were yet to execute capital projects under their purviews despite the releases of between 40 to 60 per cent of capital projects funds in the 2021 budget.

Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila said if the allegation of diversions was true, it amounted to an act of "economic sabotageÔÇØ which, he said, the House would not tolerate.
