Final Rites for Former Abia Governor Ogbonnaya Onu Set for November 8

Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu, former Governor of old Abia State and influential Nigerian politician, will be laid to rest on November 8, 2024. The burial program spans multiple states, including tributes in Abuja, Abia, and Ebonyi, culminating in his interment in Uburu, Ebonyi State.

The final rites for Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu, former Governor of the old Abia State, have been scheduled for November 8, 2024. The burial committee, representing Onu's family from Uburu in Ohaozara Local Government Area, Ebonyi State, released the program detailing the ceremonies.

Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu, who passed away on April 11, 2024, at the age of 73, was a notable figure in Nigerian politics. An engineer and author, he was the first elected civilian governor of Abia State and played a crucial role in the formation of the All Progressives Congress (APC). He also served as Minister of Science and Technology and was honored with the title of Commander of the Order of Niger (CON).

The burial program begins on November 4, 2024, with a Night of Tributes at the Musa Yar'Adua Centre in Abuja. The following day, November 5, a requiem mass will be held at the Church of Assumption in Asokoro, Abuja.

On November 6, his body will be lying in state at the Abia State Executive Council Chambers, followed by another Day of Tributes at the International Conference Centre in Umuahia. The next day, November 7, the lying-in-state continues in Ebonyi at the State Executive Chamber, followed by a requiem mass and wake at his hometown in Uburu.

The burial of will culminate on November 8 with a funeral service and interment at Uburu, Ohaozara LGA, Ebonyi State, where the final farewells will be given to a man who left a significant mark on Nigeria's political landscape.
