Gov. Otti Lauds Gregory University As MDCN Inducts It's Pioneer Medical Doctors | DETAILS + PHOTOS
The Governor of Abia State, Dr Alex Otti, has commended the management of Gregory University, Uturu, for partnering the government in delivering solutions to the health challenges of the people.
Addressing the maiden induction ceremony of pioneer graduates of the College of Medicine and Health Sciences, Gregory University, Uturu, Governor Otti, who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Kenneth Kalu, applauded the institution's faculty and staff for their commitment to scholarly excellence, and encouraged the new doctors to be true ambassadors of their Alma mater.

Decrying the worrisome dearth of qualified personnel to successfully undertake the health challenges of the people, the Governor enjoined the new doctors to serve the society by ensuring the good delivery of impactful medical practice while upholding high ethical standards, in keeping with vision and mission of Gregory University Uturu.

Speaking before administering statutory induction oaths on the fresh graduates, the Registrar of Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria(MDCN), Dr Tajudeen Sanusi, reiterated the importance of prioritizing quality assurance in compliance with the provisions of established benchmarks of the regulatory body.

Frowning on cases of observed non compliance to the training modules approved by MDCN, Dr Sanusi admonished management of Gregory University Uturu to adhere to the existing statutes of the regulatory body or risk stiff sanctions. He subsequently enjoined parents of the graduating doctors to grant their wards liberty to practice the profession passionately while choosing their preferred areas of specialization.

On his own part, the Vice Chancellor of Gregory University Uturu, Prof. Augustine Uwakwe, expressed gratitude to God for the realization of the vision of the founder of the institution, Prof. Gregory Ibe, who according to him continues to labour day and night in his efforts to reduce the increasing deficit of qualified medical doctors in the global world of work.

Represented by the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academic, Prof Uwaoma Uche, the Vice Chancellor acknowledged the support of Abia State Government, Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria, Federal Ministry of Health, Federal Medical Centre Umuahia, who variously collaborated with Gregory University Uturu in attaining the historic milestone achievement of graduating her pioneer medical doctors.

In her address, Deputy Provost of the Medical College, Prof. Ijeoma Nduka, expressed gratitude for the collective efforts that led to the landmark achievement, acknowledging that though the eight-year journey was filled with challenges, it eventually turnout to be highly rewarding. She charged the newly inducted doctors to discharge their duties diligently.

Highlights of the event was the conferment of awards on graduating doctors who distinguished themselves through outstanding academic performances, with Dr Davis Oluwasijibomi emerging over all best.

19 medical doctors were inducted and licensed by the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) after six years of academic activities.
