Abia State is set to take a giant leap into the future of digital governance and connectivity as Governor Alex Chioma Otti, OFR, flags off the Abia State Duct Infrastructure Project - a first-of-its-kind digital backbone initiative in the state.
The official flag-off ceremony, scheduled to take place on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, at Aba Town Hall, Aba South Council Headquarters, marks another major milestone in the Otti administration's mission to build a modern, smart, and technology-driven Abia State.

According to a statement signed by the Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, the project is designed to establish an integrated underground duct system that will serve as a reliable framework for efficient broadband deployment, digital communication, and smart city development.

Prince Kanu described the initiative as "a strategic foundation for Abia's digital economy - one that will power innovation, transparency, and inclusive growth across all sectors.ÔÇØ

He explained that once completed, the Duct Infrastructure Project will make Abia one of the most digitally connected states in Nigeria, attracting both local and foreign investments while creating thousands of jobs in ICT, infrastructure, and service delivery.

The project aligns with Governor Otti's commitment to repositioning Abia as the commercial and technological hub of the South East. By providing the necessary digital framework, it will also support e-governance, education technology, surveillance systems, and smart traffic management, among other modern applications.

Expected at the flag-off event are top government officials, traditional rulers, business leaders, youth and women groups, community stakeholders, and representatives of international development partners.

The Commissioner urged all invited guests to be seated before the arrival of the Governor and his entourage, describing the event as "a landmark moment that will redefine how Abia connects, works, and grows in the digital age.ÔÇØ
