Abia State Governor Dr. Alex Otti has reassured traders in Ariaria and Ekeoha markets undergoing remodeling that no original shop owner will lose their space. He promised first refusal rights to all current shop owners and provided options for bank loans to help those who need financial assistance. Governor Otti stressed fair treatment for all traders, adding that all payments will go directly to the state government's account to ensure transparency.

In response to concerns from shop owners in Abia's major markets, Governor Alex Otti, OFR, has given his assurance that no original shop owner in the ongoing remodeling of the Ariaria International Market and Ekeoha Market will lose their place of business. The Governor's promise comes as part of his commitment to fair reallocation and support for the traders, a move he reiterated during a meeting with a delegation from the National Association of Nigeria Traders (NANT) on Wednesday, November 5.
Governor Otti emphasized that current shop owners will be granted "first right of refusal" to reclaim their remodeled shops, a significant shift from past practices. He also warned prospective buyers who are not original shop owners to refrain from purchasing shops in the remodeled markets, adding that unauthorized purchases would result in losses for such buyers.

"On the issue of shops, I have issued clear instructions: those who own shops must have first right of refusal," the Governor assured. "If you own a shop, and you don't get it, it will only be because you don't want it. These fears are no longer tenable."
To further ease the financial burden on traders, Governor Otti has arranged with two banks to provide loans to original shop owners who may need extra funds. For example, if the shop's price is 10 million naira and a shop owner only has 5 million, the bank will cover the difference, securing the shop's title document until the loan is repaid. This loan arrangement is available to traders in Ariaria, Ekeoha, and any other markets under the state's remodeling plans.
"This support plan means that even if you're short on funds, we have arranged with banks to help you secure your shop. You will only need to repay the bank, and you will retain full ownership," Governor Otti explained.

On the matter of payments, Governor Otti also announced that all transaction processes have been streamlined. All payments will now go directly into the Abia State Government's bank account to prevent misuse, ensuring traders receive alerts confirming their payments. He added that any payment delays or issues will be addressed promptly to avoid system errors.

In response to NANT's proposal to hold a civic reception and present him with an award, Governor Otti respectfully declined, reminding the delegation of his policy against receiving awards while in office, a stance he made clear during his inauguration.

The NANT delegation left the meeting reassured and appreciative of the Governor's commitments, which they believe will promote transparency, fairness, and economic stability for all traders affected by the remodeling.
