Governor Otti Drops Major Hint on Who Takes Over After Him

Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, OFR, has made one of his boldest political declarations yet, announcing that his successor in 2031 will be better than him, a statement that signals confidence in the foundation his administration is laying and a clear message that Abia State will not return to its troubled past.

Governor Otti made the declaration during a ground reception service organised in his honour by the Assemblies of God Church, Okaiuga-Nkwoegwu, Umuahia North Local Government Area, where he addressed worshippers, political leaders, and stakeholders on the future direction of the state.

According to the Governor, his administration has only just begun the real work of rebuilding Abia, insisting that the next phase will be marked by aggressive and irreversible development across the state.

"We have just started. We are not three years yet. So, you can imagine what will happen by the time we are done in 2031," Otti declared.

He described the present period as a defining season in Abia's history, stressing that the limitations and setbacks of the past had been permanently removed.

"The news I have for Abia people is that we have broken that curse that held us down. And whoever is going to succeed me will be better than me. When people think we are going to go back to them, they must be dreaming. We've moved," the Governor said to loud applause.

Drawing from Psalm 62:11, Governor Otti said the transformation of Abia State aligns with divine timing, explaining that no force can stop what God has ordained.

"God has spoken once, twice have I heard this: that power belongs to God. You can do everything you want to do, but if it is not God's time, it will not work. When it is God's time, even if you are sleeping, God will wake you up," he stated.

During the service, the Assemblies of God Church requested a Hummer bus for evangelism and land for a prayer camp. Governor Otti immediately confirmed that the church would receive the bus within the week, courtesy of Prince Dr. Arthur Eze, while directing his Chief of Staff, Pastor Caleb Ajagba, Ph.D, to work with church leaders to secure land for the prayer village.

The Governor also expressed appreciation to churches across the state for their consistent support, describing the church as a critical partner in Abia's moral and developmental renewal.

Earlier, the District Superintendent of the Assemblies of God Church, Jerusalem District, Rev. Dr. Kenneth Ogbudu, described Governor Otti as a transformational leader whose emergence has redefined governance in Abia State.

According to him, the Otti administration represents a historic break from the past, marked by competence, transparency, and verifiable results.

He highlighted the reconstruction of long-abandoned roads, improved connectivity between communities, revival of commerce, and the restoration of dignity to both urban and rural areas.

Rev. Ogbudu also praised the Governor for introducing a new culture of fiscal discipline, noting that salaries and pensions are now paid regularly, restoring hope to workers and retirees.

"For the first time since the creation of Abia State, public funds are being managed with transparency, accountability, and confidence," he said.

He further commended the Governor's courage in institutional reforms, stating that public systems are being cleaned up and governance structures strengthened to ensure that public office serves the people, not personal interests.

The event attracted top government officials, including Mrs. Priscilla Otti, Hon. Obi Aguocha (Ikwuano/Umuahia Federal Constituency), the Deputy Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, commissioners, special advisers, senior aides, and permanent secretaries.

The reception has since been interpreted by political observers as a strong signal of continuity, confidence, and a long-term development agenda ahead of the 2031 transition.
