Hillary Clinton says gutsiest thing she ever did was stay married says the gutsiest thing she ever did in her personal life was not leaving her husband.

"I think the gutsiest thing I've ever done - well, personally - make the decision to stay in my marriage," Clinton said Tuesday during a joint interview alongside her daughter, Chelsea Clinton, with Amy Robach on "Good Morning America."

"Publicly, politically, run for president," Clinton, 71, continued. "And keep going. Just get up every day and keep going."

Chelsea Clinton said Tuesday that she was so "overwhelmed" by her mother's answer to Robach's question about the gutsiest thing she's ever done that she was "a bit out of words." The former secretary of State and former President Clinton tied the knot in 1975.
The ex-commander in chief's affair with then-White House intern Monica Lewinsky in the 1990s ignited a media firestorm and put the Clintons' marriage in the spotlight.

"I didn't know whether our marriage could - or should - survive such a stinging betrayal, but I knew I had to work through my feelings carefully, on my own timetable," Hillary Clinton wrote in her 2003 memoir, "Living History." She wrote at the time that staying with her husband was one of "the most difficult decisions I have made in my life."

"But my most important identity now is as my three kids' mom," said Chelsea Clinton, who gave birth to her third child, son Jasper, in July. "So I'm just going to try to be gutsy every day."
