A disturbing trend is sweeping through Nigeria, as more Nigerian men-especially married ones-are reportedly dying during sexual encounters with women who are not their wives. This unsettling phenomenon, often occurring in hotels, has been traced to a deadly cocktail of performance pressure, sex enhancement drugs, and hidden health issues.

The latest high-profile casualty is Dr. Olabode Abimbola Ibikunle, a lecturer at Kogi State University, who tragically died after checking into a hotel with a woman identified as Miss Helen Raymond. His sudden death has reignited national concern about what experts now describe as a dangerous epidemic.

Clinical Psychologist and Mental Health Therapist, Mcfredericks Akor Edache, explained that many Nigerian men are turning to sex enhancers in a bid to impress their partners, especially side chicks, during sexual encounters. But the consequences are often fatal.

"The sight of a succulent nude female is usually irresistible," Edache noted. "But the satisfaction can come naturally if foreplay is done right. No man should feel pressured to impress by prolonging sex unnaturally. It's a dangerous game."

Edache emphasized that the natural sexual response consists of stages-including arousal, plateau, orgasm, and resolution-all of which are disrupted when enhancement drugs are introduced.

"These drugs ensure prolonged erection by increasing blood flow to the genitals, but at the expense of other vital organs like the heart and brain. In many cases, this results in collapse or even death due to poor oxygen circulation," he warned.

Kwara State lecturer, Hassan Alowonle, lamented that the phenomenon-what he termed "from pleasure to grave"-has become normalized in Nigeria. He stressed that many victims suffer from pre-existing health issues like heart disease, which are worsened by the physical exertion of intense sexual activity.

"Sex, like any other exercise, can be dangerous if done excessively or without awareness of your medical condition. Unfortunately, many men ignore this and die trying to fulfill fantasies," he stated.

He further blamed unrealistic sexual expectations from some women-fueled by media and sex product advertisements-for pushing men into risky behavior.

"Advertisers sell sexual supplements as the key to lasting longer in bed. Many men, in trying to prove themselves, forget they're not machines. They ignore their health status and end up as casualties," Alowonle added.

Infidelity, Ignorance, and the Cost of Impressing Strangers

Public affairs analyst and chemist, Divine Mike Akor, added a moral dimension to the matter. He linked the pattern of deaths to what he described as "infidelity and unchastity," warning that the universe has a way of punishing such moral lapses.

"These Nigerian men often use enhancement drugs not with their wives, but with strangers whose backgrounds they know nothing about. Some may even be diabolical. It's spiritual and medical carelessness combined," Akor cautioned.

He called for a return to moral discipline and marital contentment, arguing that the real solution lies in "self-control and avoiding illicit sexual escapades."

"No supplement can compensate for peace of mind and loyalty. Men must stop trying to impress every woman they meet-especially at the cost of their lives," he concluded.
