How Soludo's Operation Udo Ga Achi Aims to Restore Peace in Anambra

Governor Chukwuma Soludo has launched Operation Udo Ga Achi, a comprehensive security initiative to tackle crime in Anambra State. The governor promises to rid the state of armed robbery, kidnapping, and cultism through technology-driven surveillance and strict enforcement of laws.

Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State has announced the launch of a joint security operation tagged Operation Udo Ga Achi (Let Peace Reign) to tackle the rising insecurity plaguing the state. The Udo Ga Achi initiative, unveiled during a press briefing at the Governor's Lodge, Amawbia, is part of a broader strategy to address armed robbery, kidnapping, cultism, and touting, which have become rampant in the region.

Governor Soludo highlighted the alarming resurgence of criminal activities in some areas previously liberated by his administration. He explained that seven local government areas were initially under the control of hoodlums when he assumed office, but intensive efforts drove these criminals away. However, some of these dislodged elements have regrouped, necessitating a more comprehensive approach to restoring peace.

To ensure the success of the Udo Ga Achi operation, Soludo outlined several strategic measures:

Deployment of Patrol Vehicles: The state has procured 168 vehicles to enhance the mobility of security agencies across Anambra.

ICT-Driven Surveillance: Advanced technology will be used to improve intelligence gathering and crime monitoring.

Amnesty Programme: Criminals willing to surrender by the end of February will be granted amnesty and supported in reintegrating into society.

Soludo emphasized his administration's commitment to helping repentant criminals rebuild their lives, stating, "We are ready to help them start afresh.ÔÇØ

As part of the Udo Ga Achi initiative, the governor announced strict penalties for communities and individuals harboring criminals. These measures include:

Revocation of Community Land: Communities found sheltering criminals will lose their lands to the government.

Seizure of Properties: Houses used by kidnappers as hideouts will be confiscated.

Prosecution of Collaborators: Residents aiding criminal elements, whether by providing food or financial support, will face the full wrath of the law.

Soludo also condemned the use of shrines by criminal groups to control and intimidate local communities.

Governor Soludo addressed claims linking Anambra's insecurity to the detention of separatist leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu. He noted that organized crime groups exploit Kanu's name to justify their activities, even as Kanu and IPOB have repeatedly disowned such acts.

"Many of these criminals are profiting heavily from kidnappings, making millions in ransom. Even if Kanu calls for an end, they wouldn't listen because criminality has become a lucrative business," the governor remarked.

Governor Soludo urged all Anambra citizens to support the government's efforts to restore peace, assuring them that his administration will not relent until insecurity becomes a thing of the past.

"Criminals and their collaborators have no place in our state. Together, we will reclaim our communities and make Anambra a haven of peace and development," he concluded.
