Gov. Alex Otti of Abia State proudly announced the completion of the reconstruction of 90 roads, addressing severe dilapidation since his assumption of office. Speaking at the Government House in Umuahia during a June press briefing, Otti highlighted the direct labor efforts by the Ministry of Works in achieving these significant infrastructure improvements, aligning with the Zero Pothole Policy.

"We have reconstructed, rebuilt, and inaugurated 16 roads, with another 16 currently underway, totaling about 165 kilometers across various senatorial districts," Otti stated. The governor emphasized the strategic importance of the long-abandoned Ohanku Road, which is now under reconstruction using rigid pavement technology to ensure durability.

Recognizing the pivotal role of infrastructure in economic growth, Otti revealed plans to address every road in every Local Government within the next 12 months. He also mentioned ongoing efforts to secure virement from the 2024 budget to fund additional road projects.

In healthcare, Otti's administration has begun rehabilitating general hospitals and primary healthcare centers, aiming to make them fully operational in batches. He also noted progress at the state University Teaching Hospital, with 19 disciplines already accredited and further developments planned.

Addressing the education sector, Otti described initiatives to remodel public schools, enhancing the learning environment and improving educational standards. Despite the challenges, he remained optimistic, stating, "Rome was not built in a day, but we are moving in the right direction."

Otti highlighted the government's focus on agriculture to achieve food security, citing the recent training of 300 Abia natives in sophisticated mechanized farming techniques. Partnerships with reputable organizations are also being pursued to boost the production of palm oil, rubber, cocoa, plantain, and rice.

On security, Otti expressed deep regret over the killing of five soldiers in Aba, vowing to ensure justice and enhanced security measures across the state. The administration remains committed to safeguarding lives and property.

Furthermore, Otti emphasized the prioritization of workers' welfare, with timely salary payments and efforts to address pending issues from the previous administration, such as promotions and leave allowance arrears.
