Michael Okpara University Registry Week: Gov. Otti Backs Reforms For Improved Service Delivery

Governor Alex Otti has pledged increased support for Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, highlighting the importance of efficient registry services in Nigerian universities. Represented by his Special Adviser on Education, Kenechukwu Nwosu, Otti made this commitment during the opening of the maiden edition of Registry Week at the university.

The Vice-Chancellor of the university, Professor Maduebibisi Iwe, addressed the staff of the Registry Department, emphasizing the need for efficient service delivery. He warned against practices that could disrupt smooth operations, such as hiding important files or making life difficult for students. Iwe urged the staff to shun truancy and take full advantage of the seminar to improve their performance.

Professor Iwe's call to action was echoed by Sam Onuigbo, the Chairman of the occasion, who stressed the need for modern equipment and well-trained officials to enhance service delivery. Onuigbo pointed out that these improvements would help address issues such as missing scripts, delayed results, and fake certificates, thereby maintaining the integrity of university documents. He challenged the registry staff to avoid corruption and uphold high standards in their duties.

Keynote speaker Titus Igwe further elaborated on the necessity for Nigerian universities to modernize their record-keeping systems. He encouraged the staff to adopt efficient resource management strategies to better navigate current economic challenges. Igwe emphasized that moving away from outdated systems would enable universities to serve students more effectively.

Governor Otti, through his representative, expressed his administration's commitment to supporting the university and the broader education sector. He acknowledged the crucial role of efficient registry services in the overall performance of educational institutions and pledged to facilitate necessary reforms and resource provisions.
