Olayemi Michael Cardoso Assumes Duty As Acting CBN Governor | READ MORE
President Bola Tinubu's nominee, Dr. Olayemi Michael Cardoso, on Friday, assumed office as the governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) in Acting capacity.

According to a statement issued by CBN's Director for Corporate Communications, Dr. Isa AbdulMumin, Cardoso will serve in acting capacity pending when his nomination is confirmed by the Senate.

The statement also confirmed that Mr Godwin Emefiele, who is still under the custody of the DSS, has resigned as CBN governor, including other Deputies .

"Dr. Olayemi Michael Cardoso, recently nominated by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has on Friday, September 22, 2023, formally assumed duty, in an acting capacity, as the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, pending his confirmation by the Senate. This follows the resignation of Mr Godwin Emefiele as Governor of the CBN.

"Similarly, the Deputy-Governors-Designate have also assumed duty, in acting capacities, sequel to the formal resignation of Mr. Folashodun Shonubi, Mrs. Aishah Ahmad, Mr. Edward Adamu, and Dr. Kingsley Obiora as Deputy Governors of the CBN.ÔÇØ

The deputy-governors-designate are; Emem Usoro, Muhammad Abdullahi-Dattijo, Philip Ikeazor, and Bala Bello.

Meanwhile,Dr. Cardoso and his colleagues were administered oaths of office at a brief ceremony held at the Bank's Head Office in Abuja on Friday and have commenced work.
