Former Edo State Governor and Senator representing Edo North, Adams Oshiomhole, has taken a swipe at former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, accusing him of politicizing President Bola Tinubu's recent condolence visit to Plateau State.

Speaking during an interview on Channels Television's Sunday Politics, Oshiomhole said it was disturbing that a man of Atiku's age and political experience could still reduce a solemn act of condolence to political debate.

According to the former APC National Chairman, it was shameful that Atiku - who should be playing the role of an elder statesman - has chosen to view every national event through the lens of political rivalry.

"I have sympathy for former Vice President Atiku for thinking that even in matters of death and honouring the dead, politics must be involved,ÔÇØ Oshiomhole said. "At his age, he should know better.ÔÇØ

Atiku had earlier lambasted President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for traveling to Plateau State to attend the funeral of Mama Lydia Yilwatda, the mother of the APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda. The PDP chieftain claimed the President was insensitive to the plight of victims of insecurity in the state, choosing instead to attend what he described as a "social event.ÔÇØ
But Oshiomhole came to Tinubu's defense, insisting that the President's visit was purely an act of respect and humanity, not politics.
"Can anyone accuse the President of being insensitive just because he attended a condolence visit?ÔÇØ Oshiomhole asked. "Even if he went to pay his last respects to the mother of the APC Chairman, what is wrong with that? It was on a weekend for God's sake.ÔÇØ

The fiery former labour leader further reminded Nigerians that Atiku's camp has no moral ground to accuse anyone of insensitivity, recalling his own confrontations with the Obasanjo-Atiku administration as President of the Nigeria Labour Congress.

"I was practically a one-man opposition when Atiku was Vice President,ÔÇØ Oshiomhole said. "They forget too quickly what they did while in office. Rather than discuss alternative policy choices, they now trivialize politics with arguments about empathy.ÔÇØ

He accused the PDP presidential candidate of allowing bitterness and desperation to cloud his political judgment, urging him to show statesmanship rather than pettiness.
