The Federal Government of Nigeria has reportedly activated an emergency security protocol aimed at safely extracting former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan from Guinea Bissau, following the military coup that has destabilized the West African nation.

A senior government source confirmed that Jonathan, who was in Guinea Bissau on an official engagement, remains safe under the protection of a multinational security task force which includes Nigerian operatives. The team is currently stationed in the country to ensure the safety of Nigerian diplomats and high-profile officials caught in the sudden coup.

According to the source, who spoke under strict anonymity due to the sensitivity of the operation, preparations have already begun to facilitate Jonathan's return to Nigeria through a coordinated extraction plan designed to navigate the volatile security environment.

The Federal Government had earlier condemned the violent takeover in Guinea Bissau and demanded the immediate restoration of constitutional order.
