Senate Confirms Appointment of NERC, NPC Commissioners

Senate confirms the appointment of four new commissioners for the Nigerian Electricity Regulations Commission (NERC), five returning commissioners for National Population Commission (NPC) and Mrs. Emily Chidimma Osuji as Executive Director of the Nigerian Deposit Insurance Corporation, all appointed by the President.

Senate confirms the appointment of four new commissioners for the Nigerian Electricity Regulations Commission (NERC), five returning commissioners for National Population Commission (NPC) and Mrs. Emily Chidimma Osuji as Executive Director of the Nigerian Deposit Insurance Corporation, all appointed by the President.

The Senate had on Wednesday 16th February, confirmed the appointments of four new commissioners for the Nigerian Electricity Regulations Commission (NERC).

Following the screening by the committee on Power, chaired by Sen.Gabriel Torwua (Benue North East) on Monday 14th February and the report considered by the Senate, the following new commissioners were confirmed:

Dr. Yusuf O. Ali (North Central)
Engr. Chidi Ike. ( South East)
Mr. Nathan Rogers Shatti (North East)
Mr Safe Akpeneye. (South South)
Although, during the screening, a petition was presented that Dr Yusuf was not from Kwara State, but the petition was ruled out after Dr Yusuf clarified that his forefathers migrated from Osun State to Kwara State, and since then, they have naturalized in Kwara State where he was born, he schooled and he as well votes in Kwara State.

Upon meeting all the requirements by the Senate, the four new commissioners were confirmed.
The Senate had also on Wednesday 16th February, confirmed the nomination of five returning commissioners for commissioners for National Population Commission (NPC).

Sequel to the screening on Monday 12th February, by the committee on National Identity and National Population, chairmaned by Sen. Alhaji Ya'u Sahabi (Zamfara North) and the report presented by the committee, the following returning Commissioners were confirmed:

Mrs. Gloria Fateya Izonfo (Bayelsa)
Barr. Kupchi Patricia Ori Iyanya (Benue)
Dr. Haliru Bala FCE, FNIMN (Kebbi)
Dr. Eyitayo Oyekunle Oyetunji (Oyo)

Upon meeting all the requirements by the Senate, the four new commissioners were confirmed.

In addition, the lawmakers also confirmed the appointment of Mrs Emily Chidimma Osuji as the executive Director of the Nigerian Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC).

This was decided after been screened by the committee on Banking, Insurance and other financial Institutions chaired by Sen. Sani, Uba (Kaduna Central) on Tuesday 15th February, 2022.
