Senator Obinna Ogba Pleads With Buhari To Assent To Youths, Sports Commission Bill
Senator Obinna Ogba, representing Ebonyi Central Senatorial Zone in the National Assembly has called on the President Buhari to assent to the Youths and Sports bill which has been passed by the two Chambers of the National Assembly.

He made this plea while speaking with newsmen in his office in Abuja

Ogba, pointed out that the National Sports Commission when established, would be charged with the responsibility of administering, encouraging and developing sports and games throughout Nigeria.

He said that the objective of the bill was to encourage the advancement of learning and provide opportunities for acquiring higher education in Sports.
"To act as agents and catalysts, through post-graduate training, research and innovation for the effective and economic utilisation, exploitation and conservation of the country's sports resources.ÔÇØ

"Nigeria youths will have a platform where they can always meet and discuss their problem, I feel that is the way it should be.

"If you go to ministry of women affairs, you will find youths money there. If you go to ministry of agriculture, there's money that is meant for the Nigerian youths. If you go to youths and sports, you will also find money there meant for the youth. If you go to trade and investment, you will find money there meant for Nigerian youths.

"And at the end, the money is scattered. You will not be able to pin down if money has been judiciously used for the Nigeria youths .

"That's why I felt that if the bill sails through, there will be a rallying point and then we won't have any reason to send money meant for the Nigerian youths to the Ministry of Agriculture or Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The Ministry of Youth and sports will be supervising the commission if it is passed, so that is what I think I should do.

"So I'm I want to use this medium to plead with, Mr. President, that this is going to be one of the lasting legacy for his administration, as it concerns Nigeria youths because if this National Youths and Sports commission is passed, is going to help to administer everything about sports.
"For me as chairman of the committee on Youths and Sports, I have this bill that seeks the establishment of National Sports Commission in the history of Nigeria, Nigeria National Sports Commission has never had any law backing it up.

"The Senate passed this bill since 2021 December. The House has passed it too. I believe they have the time to send it to Mr. president for a go ahead.

"So that's why I felt that having a University of sports is also expedient. We don't have it in the whole of Africa. You have it in Europe in almost all the states of Europe. Thank God the bill was passed yesterday in the house of Reps, they have already passed the bill in the senate, he said.
