UMUAHIA, NIGERIA - The All Igbo Youth Forum (AIYF) has issued a stern ultimatum to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, warning that he risks total political rejection in the South East if IPOB Leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, is not unconditionally released within two months.
The warning follows the landmark judgment by a Kenyan High Court which declared Kanu's abduction and rendition from Kenya to Nigeria in 2021 as illegal, unconstitutional, and a violation of his human rights.

At a charged AIYF National Congress held at Akwa Hall, Igbo Street, Umuahia, the President-General of the forum, High Chief Chinedu Obilor Iyierioba, said the Kenyan ruling is a clear vindication of Kanu and that all Igbo youths should be celebrating the victory

"This is a message to Aso Rock and the entire political class that Nnamdi Kanu is not a criminal. The continued detention of Kanu is unfair to Igbos as a people," Chief Iyierioba declared, to thunderous applause from youth delegates across the South East.

Strong Warning to Tinubu: "Release Kanu or Lose 2027"

Chief Iyierioba warned that failure to release Nnamdi Kanu within two months would lead to the mobilization of Igbo youths against President Tinubu's 2027 re-election bid.

"If Kanu is not released by October, we will begin consultations with other political movements who are serious about national unity and justice. We will only support a presidential candidate in 2027 who promises to release our brother," he stated.

He lamented that while other agitators like Sunday Igboho and Northern insurgents have either been released or negotiated with, Nnamdi Kanu remains locked away without justice.

South East Politicians Also Blamed
Iyierioba did not spare political leaders from the South East. He alleged that some governors, senators, and members of the House of Representatives have been sabotaging efforts to free Kanu, out of fear of losing political favor in Abuja.

"Apart from Hon. Obi Aguocha of Ikwuano/Umuahia, who has consistently stood by Kanu, the rest are cowards. They go to Aso Rock, drink tea and pretend all is well while their people are in pain."

The AIYF leader also rejected any backdoor negotiations, insisting that President Tinubu must open direct channels of engagement with Igbo youth leaders-not just political appointees.
"We are not ready to be used for political campaigns and dumped again. The President must come to the table, or the table will break," he warned.
