Uturu Bloodbath: Governor Otti Orders Full-Scale Manhunt for Killers of Chinese Miners, Police Officer

Governor Alex Otti vows justice after Chinese miners and police officer are killed by gunmen in Uturu, Abia. A full-scale manhunt has been ordered.

Governor Alex Otti of Abia State has declared an all-out war on criminals following the gruesome murder of two Chinese nationals and a Nigerian police officer at a mining site in Uturu, Isuikwuato Local Government Area.

The victims were said to have been ambushed by yet-to-be-identified gunmen in what Governor Otti has described as a terrorist-style attack, carried out with "brutal precision and reckless disregard for human life."

In a strongly worded statement issued on Sunday, April 6, 2025, by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Ferdinand Ekeoma, the Governor condemned the killings in the strongest possible terms, describing them as "unprovoked, barbaric, and an act of terror that must not be tolerated by any government or security establishment."

Governor Otti charged all security agencies operating in the state to immediately swing into action, track down the perpetrators of the heinous act, and ensure that they are brought to justice without delay.

"This gruesome and cold-blooded murder of innocent foreign investors and a patriotic officer of the Nigerian Police Force is one tragedy too many. We will not rest until every one of those involved is hunted down and prosecuted," Otti vowed.

The Governor, who appeared visibly enraged by the latest act of violence, warned that his administration would not allow criminals to turn Abia State into a safe haven for lawlessness. He emphasized that his government has been making deliberate efforts to create a secure and enabling environment for businesses and investments, particularly in strategic sectors such as solid minerals, but lamented that this act of terror was clearly intended to sabotage the economic progress being recorded under his leadership.

Otti stated that his government has been actively supporting security agencies in the state with logistics, intelligence, and morale-boosting interventions. He, however, acknowledged that incidents like the Uturu killings underscore the need for even more robust and proactive security operations.

Describing the attack as having "the clear signature of terrorism," Otti called on all people of good conscience, irrespective of political or ethnic affiliations, to condemn the incident and work together to rid the state of criminal elements.

"No business can survive where security is constantly under threat. The message from this attack is clear: those behind it want to sabotage our state. We will not let that happen," he stated.

Collaboration Across Borders

Governor Otti also disclosed plans to intensify cross-border security collaboration with neighboring states. According to him, preliminary intelligence suggests that some criminal elements infiltrate Abia through porous borders shared with other states.

"We will be working with our sister states to strengthen joint security patrols and information sharing so that no criminal finds a breeding ground within or around Abia. We are building a formidable regional security network," Otti said.

Condolences to Victims' Families and Foreign Partners

Governor Otti expressed deep condolences to the Nigerian Police Force, the Chinese Embassy in Nigeria, and the families of the deceased victims. He assured them that justice would be served and that their loved ones would not have died in vain.

"I extend my heartfelt sympathies to the families of the slain officers and the government of the People's Republic of China. May God grant the souls of the departed eternal peace," the Governor said.
