Otti recalled that January 15, 1966 marked Nigeria's first military coup, an event that plunged the country into decades of instability, distrust and institutional decay. Sixty years later, he noted, the wounds of that tragic night still echo across the nation's political and social landscape.

Yet, the Governor said the same date also represents hope, because it was on January 15, 1970, that the Nigerian Civil War ended, bringing the country back from the brink of collapse and opening a new chapter of unity and rebuilding.
According to him, Nigeria's survival despite these painful chapters reflects the triumph of collective faith over despair and cynicism.
Governor Otti described the Nigerian Armed Forces as the living symbol of the country's unity and resilience, noting that beyond their historical role in shaping Nigeria, they have evolved into a professional institution dedicated to protecting democracy and territorial integrity.
He said the 2026 Remembrance Day was not just a ceremonial gathering, but a moment for the nation to honour men and women who gave their lives so that Nigeria could survive its contradictions and imperfections.

Otti assured security agencies of the continuous support of the Abia State Government as they work to sustain law, order and stability.

The Governor added that the same package has been extended to families of fallen police officers and other security operatives who paid the ultimate price in the line of duty.
As he concluded, Otti urged Nigerians to reject ethnic, religious and political extremism, warning that violence and intolerance only deepen national wounds.
He called for dialogue, diplomacy and mutual respect as the foundation of lasting peace, reminding citizens that Nigeria's diversity should be a source of strength, not division.
According to him, what binds Nigerians together remains stronger than what divides them - if leaders and citizens choose unity over chaos.
