H0T: Why Gbajabiamila Met With Ghana Head Of Parliament

The House of Representatives Speaker, Femi Gbajabiamila, on Wednesday, July 7, met with the Ghana Head of Parliament, Alban Suman Kingsford over the lingered dispute between Nigerian traders and the Ghanaian government.

The parliamentary heads held a closed door meeting. They however, after their meeting, promised to intervene in the dispute adding that with the planned return visit of Gbajabiamila to Ghana next week, all the issues would be discussed and resolved.

Gbajabiamila who spoke to newsmen after the meeting expressed concern over the one million dollar minimum capital requirement placed on foreign traders, under which majority of the affected were Nigerian traders

He noted that he had been assured that the Ghanaian parliament were already working on a legislation to address the dispute.

"We've concluded discussion on the road map to achieving lasting peace. Even though as brothers, we still have issues here and there. It is how we're able to address them that matters. We have succeeded in discussing the issuesÔÇØ the speaker said.

He also revealed that the Ghanaian government had agreed to reconstruct the Nigerian embassy damaged earlier, "even though it has nothing to do with it.ÔÇØ

On his own part, Kingsford assured that both sides will make sure all issues are resolved, adding that the leadership of the two parliaments have been proactive on the matter.
