Former Senate President Adolphus Wabara has openly declared his support for the October 20 nationwide peaceful protest demanding the unconditional release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

In a strongly worded letter to human rights activist Omoyele Sowore, who is spearheading the protest, Wabara said every peaceful step toward justice and national reconciliation "has my total support.ÔÇØ

The ex-Senate President, who is currently receiving medical treatment abroad, said he would have joined the march physically if not for his health condition.

"I wish to commend your efforts and those of others who continue to speak up for justice and fairness in our country,ÔÇØ Wabara wrote. "Though I am away, my spirit stands with every peaceful Nigerian who will march for truth on that day.ÔÇØ
He praised Sowore and other activists for their courage to confront injustice, insisting that peace cannot thrive where oppression continues unchecked.
In a separate statement, the World Igbo Congress (WIC) threw its full weight behind the protest, describing it as "a fight not just for one man, but for the soul of justice itself.ÔÇØ

WIC, in a joint statement signed by its Chairman Dr. Festus Okere and Secretary-General Sir Chris Ogara, said the continued detention of Nnamdi Kanu "is an open wound on Nigeria's conscience.ÔÇØ

"The chains on Nnamdi Kanu are not just chains on one man - they are chains on freedom, on justice, and on truth itself,ÔÇØ the group declared.

The organization wondered why government authorities who have pardoned and rehabilitated terrorists and bandits still find it difficult to release a man who only spoke his mind.

"Why do we celebrate bandits and jail truth tellers? Why does the government fear the voice of its own citizens? Nigeria cannot build unity on fear,ÔÇØ the statement said.

Citing a quote attributed to U.S. President Donald Trump, WIC warned that any government that fears its people is already governing with weakness, not strength.
The group also took a swipe at some Igbo political leaders who have allegedly turned their backs on Kanu's plight, accusing them of "choosing comfort over courage and power over people.ÔÇØ

"Where were the Igbo governors when their son was dragged across borders like a criminal?ÔÇØ WIC asked. "History will not forget those who kept silent while injustice reigned.ÔÇØ

It urged Ndigbo across the world to remain united and resolute in their call for Kanu's release, saying no amount of intimidation can silence a people demanding justice.

"No prison cell is strong enough to chain the human spirit. No silence is deep enough to bury truth. The cry of the oppressed will always outlive the silence of their oppressors,ÔÇØ WIC declared.

The October 20 rally, promoted by Sowore and supported by several human rights groups, is expected to hold simultaneously across major Nigerian cities and diaspora communities.
Both Wabara and WIC emphasized that the protest must remain peaceful, organized, and focused on justice, warning that violence would only empower the oppressors.
