The internal crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has intensified as the National Working Committee (NWC), during its 608th meeting on Saturday, November 1, 2025, announced the suspension of four top national officers, including the National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu.

According to a statement signed by the PDP National Publicity Secretary, Hon. Debo Ologunagba, the affected officials were suspended for one month and referred to the National Disciplinary Committee for investigation. During this period, they are barred from performing their official duties.

However, sources within the PDP told All Facts Newspaper that the suspensions may not be unconnected with the roles allegedly played by the affected officials in frustrating the planned National Convention of the party, where new national officers are expected to be elected.

One senior party official who spoke on condition of anonymity alleged that the quartet had been "working behind the scenes to delay the convention process", a move the NWC reportedly interpreted as an attempt to undermine the collective will of the party.

"The NWC felt there were deliberate moves to stall preparations for the convention, which is key to repositioning the party ahead of 2027," the source said.

In line with Section 36(2) of the PDP Constitution (2017 as amended), the Deputy National Secretary, Hon. Arc. Setonji Koshoedo, has been appointed as Acting National Secretary, while the National Director of Legal Services has been mandated to oversee the legal department.

Party insiders believe the latest move is part of a broader strategy by the NWC to reassert control and prevent internal sabotage, especially as the PDP struggles to regain political stability after a series of legal and leadership challenges.

Meanwhile, close allies of the suspended officials have described the action as "a political witch-hunt", insisting that their suspension is an overreach meant to silence dissenting voices within the NWC.

Political analysts, however, warn that the move could widen existing cracks within the opposition party if reconciliation is not quickly initiated, even as many grassroots members continue to demand transparency in the buildup to the convention.
