Former Bayelsa State Governor and ex-Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Chief Timipre Sylva, has refuted media reports linking him to an alleged coup plot against the Nigerian government.

In a detailed statement issued by his Special Assistant on Media and Public Affairs, Julius Bokoru, on Wednesday, Sylva described the allegations as false, malicious, and politically motivated, insisting that he remains a firm believer in democracy and an unwavering supporter of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

According to Bokoru, the claim was part of a smear campaign orchestrated by political rivals seeking to tarnish Sylva's image and undermine his growing influence ahead of the 2027 general elections.

"The allegations are entirely false and malicious. Chief Timipre Sylva has no link to any coup plot. His record in politics and governance has been one of dialogue, peace, and democratic engagement,ÔÇØ Bokoru stated.

Raid on Sylva's Residence Raises Questions

The statement also confirmed reports that operatives believed to be from the Defence Headquarters recently raided Sylva's Abuja residence, allegedly causing extensive property damage.

"For the avoidance of doubt, it is true that the residence of His Excellency, Chief Timipre Sylva, was recently subjected to a raid by individuals believed to be operatives of the Defence Headquarters. During the operation, considerable damage was inflicted on the property,ÔÇØ Bokoru disclosed.

He noted that neither Timipre Sylva nor his family was informed of the reason behind the raid, adding that the former minister and his wife were outside the country during the incident.

"As of my last communication with His Excellency, he was undergoing routine medical checks in the United Kingdom, after which he was scheduled to attend a professional conference in Malaysia,ÔÇØ he revealed.

Sylva Reaffirms Loyalty to Tinubu and APC

Bokoru stressed that Sylva remains loyal to President Bola Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), describing him as a democrat with a record of peaceful engagement in governance.
