A fresh political twist has emerged in Abia State following President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's decision to withdraw the earlier nomination of Obinna Oriaku and replace him with Dr. Victor Ikeji as the Federal Character Commission (FCC) Commissioner representing Abia.

The President's latest request was officially conveyed in a letter to the Senate and read by Senate President Godswill Akpabio during plenary on Thursday. According to President Tinubu, the new nomination was made in line with Section 154(1) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), which empowers the President to appoint members of the Commission subject to Senate confirmation.

However, beyond the official correspondence, political observers in Abia say the sudden replacement may not be unconnected with Obinna Oriaku's recent pattern of attacks on Governor Alex Chioma Otti-a trend that has drawn widespread criticism. Speculations across political circles suggest that Oriaku's confrontational posture toward the state government may have influenced his removal, with many describing the development as a "political consequence long overdue.ÔÇØ

While the Presidency did not give reasons for the withdrawal, insiders believe the decision reflects a broader push to reduce unnecessary political tensions and ensure a more stable working relationship between federal appointees and state governments.

Tinubu urged the Senate to "consider and confirmÔÇØ Dr. Victor Ikeji, expressing confidence that the nominee would serve effectively in the Commission. In response, Senate President Akpabio referred the request to the Committee on Federal Character and Inter-Governmental Affairs, directing the panel to conclude its work and report back within one week.
