Abia South Senator, Enyinnaya Abaribe, has ignited fresh political controversy after declaring that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will lose the 2027 presidential election, insisting that Nigerians are already primed for a political showdown.

Abaribe made the explosive statement on Monday while appearing on Politics Today, a flagship political programme on Channels Television, where he spoke bluntly about the mood of the nation, the legitimacy of the 2023 election, and what he described as growing public discontent across the country.

According to the lawmaker, the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) is underestimating the level of anger and frustration among Nigerians, stressing that economic hardship, insecurity, and governance failures have fundamentally altered the political landscape.

"Everybody loses elections at some point,ÔÇØ Abaribe said. "And I can tell you that President Tinubu will lose the 2027 election because I know what Nigerians are feeling outside.ÔÇØ

In one of the most controversial moments of the interview, the senator openly questioned the credibility of Tinubu's 2023 victory, claiming that the president never genuinely won the election but was merely declared winner.

"Tinubu never won the election of 2023 and everybody knows it,ÔÇØ Abaribe asserted. "He was declared winner, no problem. We acknowledge him as president. But that does not mean it will happen again.ÔÇØ

Abaribe warned that the political environment ahead of 2027 will be fundamentally different, noting that Nigerians, opposition parties, and civil society groups are far more alert and organised than before.

"This time, everybody will be ready,ÔÇØ he said. "It will no longer be an announcement at 3am where people wake up in the morning and a winner has already been declared. That era is gone.ÔÇØ

The senator emphasized that the opposition is preparing for a direct electoral contest rather than post-election disputes, insisting that the masses are now politically conscious and determined to defend their votes.

"We are going to meet him in the field,ÔÇØ Abaribe stated. "And we will see how he plans to put together what will make him win again. It will not work.ÔÇØ
