Prominent media mogul and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) stalwart, Dele Momodu, has launched a scathing attack on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, accusing him of undermining Nigeria's democracy following the controversial suspension of Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, Deputy Governor Ngozi Odu, and the State House of Assembly for six months.

Momodu, speaking on Channels TV's The Morning Brief on Monday, did not mince words as he condemned the move as anti-democratic and a dangerous precedent for Nigeria's governance. He expressed deep disappointment, recalling Tinubu's past as a strong advocate for democracy, particularly during their time in exile.

"I think it is very unfortunate. I know President Tinubu very, very, very well. Though we've never been in the same party, we were together in exile, and he fought gallantly for democracy. A lot of us, his former comrades, are deeply embarrassed. What we are witnessing today is worse than dictatorship.ÔÇØ

Dele Momodu noted that while Nigerians could forgive Tinubu for economic failures, destroying democratic institutions would be unacceptable.

"You can fail in the economy; people will say you're not an economist. You can fail in other areas. But you cannot fail in democracy! That was the foundation of your struggle, and that is what you must protect.ÔÇØ

He referenced past Nigerian leaders, pointing out that despite the controversies surrounding Olusegun Obasanjo's alleged third-term agenda, he still peacefully transitioned power to his successor.

Momodu pleaded with President Tinubu to reverse his actions, warning that Nigeria's democratic future was at stake.

"Mr. President, don't kill democracy in Nigeria! Those who love you will tell you this. I have nothing personal to gain, but it pains me to see the democratic gains of the past being eroded.ÔÇØ

The PDP chieftain did not hold back in accusing Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of suppressing opposition voices through intimidation and political persecution.

"The only guarantee for a second term is good governance, not intimidation. No leader can hold power forever through fear tactics.ÔÇØ

Dele Momodu also warned Tinubu against being misled by advisers who push for draconian measures, urging him to focus on delivering the promises he made to Nigerians rather than engaging in power struggles.

The suspension of Governor Fubara has sparked national outrage, with many seeing it as a dangerous move towards authoritarian rule. Momodu's fiery remarks have further fueled concerns about the shrinking democratic space under Tinubu's administration.
