Yusuf Buhari, son of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari, has formally declared his intention to contest for a seat in the House of Representatives ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In a letter dated April 3, 2026, addressed to stakeholders, Buhari outlined his decision to run for the Sandamu/Daura/Mai'Adua Federal Constituency seat under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), following what he described as extensive consultations.

The letter read, "With all respect, I am extremely delighted to write and inform you of my intention to contest for the seat of House of Representatives at the above-mentioned constituency (Sandamu/Daura/Mai'Adua), under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The development was also confirmed by Bashir Ahmad, former Special Assistant on Digital Communications to the late president, who disclosed in a post on X that the decision followed broad engagement with key stakeholders.

Buhari's declaration comes shortly after stakeholders of the APC in Sandamu Local Government Area of Katsina State endorsed him as their preferred candidate for the Daura/Sandamu/Mai'Adua Federal Constituency. The endorsement was reached during a meeting held at the local government secretariat, attended by elected officials and political appointees across the constituency.

Speaking at the meeting, the council chairman, Usman Na-Lado, described the endorsement as a collective decision, noting that Buhari's candidacy was considered suitable based on his perceived capacity and acceptance within the party.

He also stated that the meeting reaffirmed support for President Bola
Tinubu and Governor Dikko Radda as the APC's candidates for the presidency and governorship positions, respectively, in the 2027 elections.
