He observed with satisfaction that the event is not a new thing in the party but this year's convention is a bit different from the other conventions in the sense that it is the first transition convention of the party.

The Chairman said: "the forthcoming convention will be expected within our constitution to produce the flag bearer of our great party to contest the presidential slot.

We are very careful that we chose different persons to be part of the committees that have been suggested by the national secretary".

He cautioned the committee members to be wary of their actions irrespective of the positions they were assigned to by the NWC committee and work with uttermost discretion for the good of the party.

The Convention Planning Committee Chairman, Abubakar Bagudu, on his part, thanked the chairman and members of the National Working Committee, NWC, for finding them fit to serve in the committee.

According to him, before the inauguration of the committee, many of them have been at work and it is quite commendable that they are on time as INEC had rolled out many events that needed to be done quicker than usual.

He stated that in many states, congresses nominated various persons sometimes for two different offices that were to be done simultaneously.

Bagudu said: "equally, I know the convention committee is dependent on the input from others. And coming at a time like this is for all of us to cooperate given what the chairman says clearly and what is known to us. As he said, it is a convention like no other which is intended by God's grace to produce a presidential flag bearer".

He promised that they are all energized to do their best to ensure that the party has a befitting and successful convention.

Speaking on behalf of other members of the committees, and sub-committee chairmen, Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State,
assured the party leadership that just as they have been called to serve, they will serve to the best of their ability and work towards ensuring that the confidence reposed on them will be justified.

He also thanked the party for giving them the opportunity and promised that they will not disappoint their expectations.
