Amid widespread speculation about his political future, former Vice President and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has dismissed rumors of his defection from the party. Instead, he has confirmed that a grand opposition coalition is in the works to unseat the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 elections.

Atiku's media office, in a strongly worded statement released on Saturday, described reports of his alleged move to the Social Democratic Party (SDP) as deliberate misinformation aimed at derailing the opposition alliance.

"We have observed that some news platforms are peddling unverified information that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar is abandoning the Peoples Democratic Party.

"We wish to clarify that the so-called news of Atiku defecting to another party is a total fallacy that holds no merit in logic,ÔÇØ the statement read.

Atiku confirmed that he is actively spearheading a coalition that will accommodate all opposition parties, including the PDP, to take on the APC in 2027.

"Hence, it is fallacious and unfounded to allege that the Waziri is jumping the PDP ship. Such an allegation is antithetical to the objective of the grand coalition, which the former Vice President is currently driving alongside other prominent political leaders in the country,ÔÇØ the statement added.
