Port Harcourt - Suspended Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has declared that he will not back down in defending the interests of Rivers people despite the escalating political crisis that led to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu declaring a state of emergency in the state last week.

Fubara, while receiving a delegation of Muslim leaders from 20 Islamic-based organizations, including the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, at his private residence in Port Harcourt during an Eid-el-Fitr Sallah visit, vowed that no level of intimidation or crisis would deter him from his mission to serve the people.

"Their goal is to create problems and deny people their means of livelihood. We will not allow that. We will continue to operate peacefully, respect constituted authority, and ensure that our state remains a model for others in Nigeria,ÔÇØ Fubara stated.

The embattled governor assured Rivers residents that the current crisis, rather than weaken them, would ultimately make them stronger and more resilient.

He expressed regret that he had been unable to formally reach out to the Muslim Ummah during their celebrations but promised that, once the crisis subsides, his administration would prioritize interfaith relations.

Governor Cautions Against Provocation, Calls for Patience

Drawing from religious history, Fubara encouraged patience among his supporters, stating, "If God could be patient with Noah to allow even the snail to enter the Ark, then patience remains an essential virtue in our struggle.ÔÇØ

Fubara also warned against provocation from elements trying to destabilize Rivers State, urging his supporters to resist engaging in violence.

Speaking on behalf of the Muslim Ummah, Alhaji Nasir Awhelebe Uhor declared their unwavering support for Fubara, assuring him of their prayers and loyalty.

He noted that the majority of Muslims in Rivers State stand with Fubara because of his inclusive governance style and his recognition of their faith.

"Unlike the previous administration that declared Rivers a 100% Christian state, Governor Fubara, upon assuming office, acknowledged the state as Christian-majority while allowing room for inclusiveness,ÔÇØ Uhor stated.
