Port Harcourt - Suspended Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has declared that he will not back down in defending the interests of Rivers people despite the escalating political crisis that led to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu declaring a state of emergency in the state last week.

Fubara, while receiving a delegation of Muslim leaders from 20 Islamic-based organizations, including the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, at his private residence in Port Harcourt during an Eid-el-Fitr Sallah visit, vowed that no level of intimidation or crisis would deter him from his mission to serve the people.

"Their goal is to create problems and deny people their means of livelihood. We will not allow that. We will continue to operate peacefully, respect constituted authority, and ensure that our state remains a model for others in Nigeria,ÔÇØ Fubara stated.

Fubara: We Will Not Be Weakened By Crisis

The embattled governor assured Rivers residents that the current crisis, rather than weaken them, would ultimately make them stronger and more resilient.

"This season is one of love, sharing, and sacrifice. You have come to share in our pain and have made a great sacrifice through your prayers. As Christians, we believe that everything happens for a purpose, and I strongly believe that this situation is leading us toward a greater purpose.ÔÇØ

Acknowledging the distress caused by the political turmoil, he urged patience and perseverance, emphasizing that divine intervention is at play beyond human comprehension.

"No matter what we see, we must remain steadfast. In all things, we give glory to Almighty God. I believe that, in the end, we will emerge stronger,ÔÇØ he added.

Fubara Slams Oppression, Preaches Inclusiveness

Fubara reaffirmed his commitment to justice, equality, and an inclusive society, stating that his administration stands against oppression and discrimination.

He expressed regret that he had been unable to formally reach out to the Muslim Ummah during their celebrations but promised that, once the crisis subsides, his administration would prioritize interfaith relations.

Governor Cautions Against Provocation, Calls for Patience

Drawing from religious history, Fubara encouraged patience among his supporters, stating, "If God could be patient with Noah to allow even the snail to enter the Ark, then patience remains an essential virtue in our struggle.ÔÇØ

Fubara also warned against provocation from elements trying to destabilize Rivers State, urging his supporters to resist engaging in violence.

Muslim Leaders Declare Support for Fubara

Speaking on behalf of the Muslim Ummah, Alhaji Nasir Awhelebe Uhor declared their unwavering support for Fubara, assuring him of their prayers and loyalty.

He noted that the majority of Muslims in Rivers State stand with Fubara because of his inclusive governance style and his recognition of their faith.

"Unlike the previous administration that declared Rivers a 100% Christian state, Governor Fubara, upon assuming office, acknowledged the state as Christian-majority while allowing room for inclusiveness,ÔÇØ Uhor stated.

Encouraging the governor to remain firm, Uhor reminded him that, in Islam, Allah rewards patience and that trials are often tests of faith, power, and authority.

Uhor further called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to review the state of emergency in Rivers State and restore Governor Fubara's full authority, arguing that Fubara had remained effective despite the political challenges.
