Fintiri declares self APC leader in Adamawa after defection

Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa State declared on Monday that he is the leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.

Fintiri, who officially defected to the APC last week, spoke against suggestions in some quarters that the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, who has been regarded as the party's leader in the state, would remain in that position.

Addressing supporters at a reception held in Yola by APC leaders, Fintiri repeatedly referred to himself as the leader, saying at one point, "as leader of the party, I will ensure that we work together in unity.ÔÇØ

He vowed that, "as the leaderÔÇØ, he would ensure the party's success across the state in the next elections.

"What we are focused on is winning election. Losing is not in our dictionary,ÔÇØ he said, urging party members to pool their goodwill and resources and agree to work together as one for the sake of the party.

He, however, assured long-standing party members that he was not in the APC to wield undue power.

"I want to assure that we are here for partnership. This is not a takeover mission. We are not defecting. We are only aligning, aligning for the good of Adamawa people,ÔÇØ he said.

He thanked President Bola Tinubu and Nuhu Ribadu for the goodwill extended to him during his move to join the APC.

Fintiri also expressed gratitude to those who defected with him from the PDP to the APC, commending their loyalty and humility in submitting themselves to the state party chairman, Idris Shuaibu.

Speaking earlier, the APC chairman said that with Fintiri and virtually his entire government joining the party, success was assured.

"Unity is manifesting, success is certain,ÔÇØ Shuaibu said.

The Minister of Livestock Development, Idi Mukhtar Maiha, who also spoke at the occasion, said Fintiri's entry into the APC signified progress for Adamawa State.

"Together we will progress. We are taking our rightful place in the polity,ÔÇØ the minister said.

The APC National Vice Chairman for the North East, Mustapha Salihu, thanked Fintiri for joining the party with his entire political structure.

Salihu also expressed appreciation to the former PDP chairman in the state, Hamza Bello, and other senior PDP figures for leaving what he described as their comfort zone to join the APC.
