Hope for Abia Farmers as Governor Otti Launches Partnership to Transform Agriculture Into Wealth Creation Engine

In line with his commitment to diversify Abia's economy, Governor Otti has set in motion a groundbreaking partnership with the Agriculture and Rural Management Training Institute (ARMTI). The goal is simple yet transformative - to move Abia from subsistence farming to structured, profitable agribusiness.

According to statistics, over 70% of Abians are engaged in some form of farming, yet only a fraction operate at commercial scale. Already, the state has recorded notable success stories. In 2024, more than 300 Abia youths were sponsored for intensive agricultural training at CSS Farms, Nasarawa State. Today, many of them have become self-sufficient agripreneurs - running poultry, fishery, and crop enterprises that now employ others.

This success, Governor Otti says, is only the beginning. The new ARMTI-Abia partnership represents the next phase - institutionalizing agricultural excellence in the state. ARMTI, one of Nigeria's foremost agricultural management institutes, has chosen Abia as its Southeast Regional Headquarters - a clear endorsement of the state's reform-minded leadership.

The collaboration aims to introduce climate-smart farming, modern farm management systems, and rural enterprise development models that will reshape agricultural productivity across the 17 local government areas of Abia.

The Greater Ohafia Development Authority (GODA) will play a vital role in ensuring these programs are rooted in community realities and accessible to local farmers. Governor Otti has already directed the Director General of GODA to provide logistics, accommodation, and operational support to ARMTI's technical teams.
