Southeast leaders, on Saturday, declared that there was no backing down on their demand for Nigeria President of Igbo extraction in 2023.

This is also as the leaders told President Muhammadu Buhari that they were saddened with the sidelining of the region in security architecture of the country.

They spoke when the President's Chief of Staff, Prof. Ibrahim Gambari led a federal government delegation to a meeting with Southeast leaders at the Enugu Government House.

Gambari was accompanied by foreign affairs minister, Mr. Geoffrey Onyeama, his labour counterpart, Senator Chris Ngige, among others.

Speaking at the well attended meeting, the Obi of Onitsha, Igwe Alfred Achebe, said Igbo presidency was topical in the demand by the people of the region.

Igwe Achebe, who spoke on behalf of traditional rulers from the zone stressed that "an Igbo person should be President in 2023, it will foster sense of unity.

His position was reechoed by Ohanaeze President, Chief Nnia Nwodo, elder statesman, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, Southeast CAN Chairman, Bishop Goddy Okafor, representative of the women and youth groups
