The Labour Party took a bold step toward national political revival on Tuesday, April 9, 2025, as a powerful coalition of its leading voices gathered in Abuja to set a new course for the opposition platform-just days after the Supreme Court officially ended Julius Abure's reign as national chairman.

The emergency National Executive Council (NEC) meeting, held at the iconic Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja, was spearheaded by Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, and attended by a who's-who of the Labour Party political elite.

Notably, Hon. Ifeanyi Frank Chinasa, MBA, the National Assembly Liaison Officer (Abuja), was among those who witnessed this historic gathering firsthand. The meeting followed the April 4 Supreme Court judgment, which validated the expulsion of Julius Abure and recognized a new Caretaker Committee led by Senator Esther Nenadi Usman.

Addressing the gathering, Governor Otti called on members to seize the moment and rebuild the Labour Party into a viable national alternative to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

A symbolic moment that confirmed the dawn of a new era came when the party submitted the Certified True Copy (CTC) of the Supreme Court judgment and the list of the Senator Nenadi Usman-led Caretaker Committee to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)-signaling an end to Abure's leadership and a formal transition to new party structures.
