Mao urges Abia PDP to resist attempt to doctor list of successful candidates

Senator Mao Ohuabunwa has urged the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Abia State not to succumb to pressure by some desperate politicians to tinker with the list of successful candidates at the party's Ward and Local Government congresses.

Ohuabunwa who expressed satisfaction over the peaceful conduct of both congresses hailed the party's leadership over the success of the exercise.

He particularly commended members of the congress committee for conducting the exercise in line with the party's constitution and the consensus position of stakeholders to place competence and popularity above mediocrity.

The former Speaker ECOWAS Parliament also commended PDP Leader in the state, Gov. Okezie Ikpeazu for his support to the party and favourable disposition for due process.

Senator Ohuabunwa said the outcome of the both exercises was a true reflection of the understanding among leaders and stakeholders of the party that only popular and acceptable aspirants should emerge as PDP exco members at various levels.

He, therefore, urged the party leadership particularly the governor not to allow any desperate politician to alter the choice of the people or smuggle in preferred candidates through the back door.

Ohuabunwa said that such impunity as being speculated in some quarters should be resisted as it could generate bad blood capable of affecting the fortunes of the party ahead of the 2023 polls.

His words : " For me the congresses went well and I commend the efforts of the leadership of PDP in the state especially our leader the Governor.

" PDP is getting stronger and that's why I want our leaders to alley the fear in some quarters that some desperate politicians want to influence the outcome of the congresses for their selfish interests.

"Such impunity if allowed will create disaffection in the party but I know our leaders won't give it a chance. "

He congratulated successful candidates at the congresses particularly those from Abia North, urging them to see their emergence as an opportunity to serve and consolidate PDP as a formidable party in the state.

Ohuabunwa who also expressed confidence that the postponed state congress of the party would also be successful, urged those who lost at the congresses to support the winners in the overall interest of the party.
